- Sound
- This release of the Infobase Library supports several new event sounds which can
- be individually enabled, disabled, or changed by using the standard Windows
- Control Panel Sounds icon. You can also include these sounds in what is called a
- sound scheme, along with all of the other sounds that are assigned to your other
- Windows programs.
- To enable, disable, or change which sounds are played for each event in the
- Infobase Library, simply do the following:
- 1) Go to the Start button on your Windows TaskBar.
- 2) Select Settings from the Start menu.
- 3) Select Control Panel from the Settings submenu. The Control Panel window will
- open.
- 4) Select the Sounds icon in the Control Panel window. A dialog window will open
- entitled Sounds Properties. A list of applications and their corresponding
- events will be listed.
- 5) Use the list's scrollbar to locate the Infobase Library application events.
- 6) For each event listed, you can enable, disable, or change the assigned sound
- file. You can also preview the sounds before you make your final selection. Use
- the Browse button to locate and specify which file you wish to use. Use the name
- fields combo box (pull down list) to select the option (None) to disable the
- event sound.
- Note: When a sound is assigned to an event, a little speaker icon will appear to
- the left of the event name. When an event has been disabled, the speaker icon
- will be removed from the event name.
- 7) Once you have finished making changes to your events, press the OK button on
- the dialog to save your changes.
- The next time you run Infobase Library, it will use the new sounds that you have
- assigned.
- Infobase Library supports the following events:
- Open Application
- Close Application
- Maximize Application
- Minimize Application
- Restore Application Down
- Restore Application Up
- Select Bookmark
- Select Button
- Select Folder
- Select Highlighter
- Select Link
- Select Note
- Select Popup
- Select Search
- Select Tag
- Track
- The Extras directory on the installation disc contains additional sounds that
- can be used. Any Windows compatible .wav file can be used with the Infobase
- Library events.
-
- Saving Shadow File
- If you are the type of user that will be using the personalization features
- (notes, highlighters, bookmarks) extensively, you will want to make a back-up of
- the files named LDS98.sdw, byustudy.sdw, and Classics.sdw. Your back-up should
- not be in the same directory and ideally should be external. If you have a back-
- up of these files and have need to reinstall the program, you would simply copy
- your back-up over the re-installed files of the same names and your
- personalization of the 98C version would be restored. NOTE: These files from
- 98A/B cannot be used to move personalization to 98C libraries.
-
- Changing Text Background to White
- When using the Infobase Library, you may notice that there are watermarks or
- graphics behind the text. Because some users may wish to eliminate these images
- and view only a white "page", we have included several files on the Set-up CD
- which make such an arrangement possible. To install these files, follow the
- instructions below.
- 1) First, once the program has been installed on your machine, locate the image
- files on your hard drive. To do this, find the directory where the Infobase
- Library is installed (the default is \program files\infobase\infobase library).
- Inside this directory there is a folder called "images". There will be one
- folder of images called "common" and at least one other folder (either "small",
- "medium", or "large"). Note which size or sizes of images were installed.
- 2) Insert the Set-up CD. When the installation menu opens, click on "exit". Open
- "my computer" and explore the CD drive. Open the file called "extras" and then
- the file called "images". You will notice three folders: "small", "medium", and
- "large". You will only need to copy those files onto your hard drive matching
- the size images installed on your machine. Open the correct folder, select all
- the files, and choose to copy. Then open the folder on your hard drive where the
- Infobase Library is installed. Open the "images" folder, then open the "small",
- "medium", or "large" folder depending on which images you have ready to paste.
- Paste these files. Windows will ask if you want to replace the existing files.
- Choose yes. Repeat the process as necessary (i.e. if there is a "small" and a
- "medium" folder on your hard drive in the Infobase Library "images" folder, you
- would need to install the "small" files from the Set-up CD and then the "medium"
- files. You would not need to install the "large" files.)
- 3) To bring the picture images back, simply reinstall the program. If you will
- be reinstalling the program and want to save notes, highlighted passages, and
- bookmarks that you have entered, please follow the instruction for saving Shadow
- File Listed above.
-
- Views Interface Install
- The custom interface developed for Infobase Library is truly a graphic user
- interface. If you are familiar with LDS Collectors Library '97 and prefer it,
- you may want to install the Views interface. To install the Views interface,
- insert the Set-up CD, (choose 'exit' when the install automatically launches)
- click start, click run, and type "x:\views\setup.exe" where "x" is the letter of
- the CD-ROM drive. Proceed through the installation. Once installation is
- complete, there will be a new icon on the desktop called "Infobase Library
- Views". Insert the appropriate data CD and double-click on the "Views" icon to
- begin.
-
- Regarding Install and Uninstall
- Infobase Library (98C) will install to a file called "Infobase" within the
- Program Files directory. Previous versions installed to "Infobases". If you
- have personalized your 98A/B, you will be able to continue to use that program.
- If you have not and would like to uninstall 98A/B, simply use the uninstall
- utility located in your Windows control panel.
